University-Corpus Christi's Manager, Software Development is
responsible for leading and managing a team of application
developers responsible for delivering development projects at
TAMU-CC. The role requires a strong background in software
development, project management methodologies, and team leadership.
This position will play a key role in the IT organization's
adoption of a hybrid approach between Waterfall and an Agile
framework, which may include the introduction of sprint planning
and other Agile practices. This position will report to the
Director of Enterprise Solutions working closely with the Business
Analysis Manager and ITES Enterprise Architect to ensure the
successful delivery of high-quality IT design, delivery and
solutions that support the university's mission.DESCRIPTIONTeam
Leadership & Development (45%)
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of application
developers, providing guidance, support, and professional
development opportunities to enhance performance in design, coding,
testing, and deployment of software solutions.
- Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular performance feedback
and conduct annual reviews to support professional growth and
development which includes identify and address skill gaps and
provide training and resources to enhance the team's
capabilities.
- Skill Development: Monitor industry trends and best practices
to ensure the team remains current and competitive by promoting a
culture of continuous improvement within the development team by
encouraging the adoption of new technologies, tools, and
processes.
- Recruitment & Retention: Participate in the recruitment process
to attract and retain top talent, ensuring the team has the
necessary skills and expertise to meet project demands.
- Collaboration & Communication: Promote a collaborative work
environment, encouraging open communication and teamwork across the
IT department and building partnerships with our customers to
understand their needs and ensure that the development team is
aligned with institutional goals. This includes developing and
maintaining contacts and collaborating regularly with other
institutions of higher education.Project Management & Delivery
(45%)
- Lead Development Projects: Oversee the planning, execution, and
delivery of software development projects, ensuring alignment with
university goals and timelines. Collaborate with project managers
to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Methodology Implementation: Implement and manage a hybrid
project management approach, blending Waterfall and Agile
practices, including sprint planning, iterative development, and
continuous integration.
- Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to ensure
projects are completed on time and within scope, while managing
risks and mitigating issues as they arise.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders,
including the Manager of Business Analysis, to gather requirements,
define project scope, and ensure that deliverables meet the needs
of the university.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the highest standards of quality are
maintained throughout the development lifecycle, from initial
design to final delivery while team adhering to established coding
standards, security protocols, and best practices.Other (10%)
- Serves on TAMU-CC's Incident Management team and the IT
Response team which may require weekend and/or after hours support
for emergencies.
- Proactively learn and utilize new technologies, concepts, and
procedures as appropriate to project requirements.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSLEVEL
II:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
- Additional education/experience may be considered as a
substitute for the minimum requirements: High School diploma/GED
with nine (9) years of related experience, Associate's degree in an
applicable field with seven (7) years of related experience,
Master's degree in an applicable field with three (3) years of
related experience OR a Doctoral degree in an applicable field with
one (1) year of related experience.LEVEL III:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
- Seven (7) years of related experience.
- Additional education/experience may be considered as a
substitute for the minimum requirements: High School diploma/GED
with eleven (11) years of related experience, Associate's degree in
an applicable field with nine (9) years of related experience,
Master's degree in an applicable field with five (5) years of
related experience OR Doctoral degree in an applicable field with 3
years of related experience.LEVEL IV:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
- Ten (10) years of related experience to include five (5) years
supervisory experience.
- Additional education/experience may be considered as a
substitute for the minimum requirements: High School diploma/GED
with fourteen (14) years of related experience that includes five
(5) years of supervisory experience, Associate's degree in an
applicable field with twelve (12) years of related experience that
includes five (5) years of supervisory experience, Master's degree
in an applicable field with eight (8) years of related experience
that includes five (5) years of supervisory experience, OR Doctoral
degree in an applicable field with six (6) years of related
experience that includes five (5) years of supervisory
experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams,
Word, etc.)
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent written communication and organizational
skills.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in higher education, organizational development
and/or human resources.
- Experience in Software Development and standards associated
with Life Cycle Management.
- Knowledge of data integration, SaaS solutions, and enterprise
software applications.
- Supervisory experience of a Software/Application development
team.
- Familiarity with project management approaches, tools and
phases of the project lifecycle.
- Experience and knowledge of change management principles,
methodologies, tools and concepts in ITIL.
- Critical thinking and analytical abilities, exceptional
communication & negotiation skills, and strong leadership and
collaborative skills.
- Ability to clearly articulate both problems and proposed
solutions.SALARY: $85,895 - $97,180/annually, approximately.
- $7,157.92 - $8,098.34/monthly.NOTE: This position has the
possible opportunity to work hybrid, however, in-person/on campus
